I just recently received FlameKing’s 1lb Refillable Cylinder Kit.

A while back we spent a month at Quartzsite and used a Mr. Buddy portable heater to supplement our furnace.  This worked out great, except we were going through a 1 lb bottle per day.  We also used a portable grill that uses the same 1lb bottles.

A friend told me about FlameKing’s Kit to fill their refillable bottles.  Their 1lb bottles have a bleed off valve to insure they are filled properly; not overfilled.

The Coleman disposable bottles are expensive and I’ve always been concerned about putting them in the trash. Their disposable bottles can be refilled, but they weren’t made for that purpose.

Here’s a picture of my kit setup filling FlameKing’s one pounders on my back porch.  It’s easy!

Anybody else using these?

Bruce,

The tank legs unscrew and the plate is flat.  The black legs are only about 1/2" in diameter, so I put the legs and thin plastic base under the bed mattress.  I can't tell they are there.  The brass valve is about 10" long and it's easily stores away.

I was carrying two or more of the disposable bottles in an outside storage compartment, so the FlameKing bottles store there in the same manner.

Since I have two 20 pound bottles with my camper, it's easy to use one of them to refill when necessary.

If a person uses quite a few of the disposable bottles, it won't take long to pay for the kit.

That's my concern too. I always have a Jeep in tow so I just carry an extra 20 pounder to use for the grill and rotate out for the furnace. I guess I'm different , at Quartzsite I kept my furnace setting between 50 to 55 at night and was comfortable.

Bob in Texas

We set our furnace at 55 at night also.  But, it was nice to come in and warm our hands next to the Buddy Heater.  Kinda like having a wood stove.  We only used it when awake.

The weather in December at Q was cold at night and cloudy and windy during each day.  That was the first time I couldn't get my batteries back full, lol.

Now, with more solar and Lithium, that shouldn't be a problem.

Are you going again this Dec?

This bottle refill system looks great but at some cost when you include multiple bottle which I would want. I’ll probably just stick to refilling the “disposables” as I likely have almost 20. People give me their empties and I have found new and partially used disposables left outside of campground dumpsters. There is risk in refilling the disposables but I have been doing it with the same equipment since 1968 so it seems to work!

We are planning a trip to Utah soon to meet two of my daughters and SIL.  They all have portable gas grills that use the 1 pound bottles.  We plan on doing lots of grilling.

One SIL prepares a dynamite Grilled Shrimp dish.  First the Bacon is cooked about 90%.  Each Shrimp is peeled, deveined and a slightly hot Jalapeno is inserted.  These are wrapped with the partially cooked Bacon slices and put on the grill.  I told him, these are a must for one night.

The second SIL likes Scallops and he gets some giant ones from the NW.  He also wraps these with Bacon and grills them.

I'm planning on grilling Pork Loins one night.

So, we will be using lots of one pound bottles for the grills.  If we run out of gas, I'll fill them on site.

I have two of these bottles and the kit  I have not taken it out of the box yet as I didnt finish off all the disposables I had due to getting a 12pack of them on sale spring 2019. I use them for my Buddy heater in my Snowmobile Trailer to take the edge off the cold when changing into and out of my gear. I have taken the Buddy in the camper early spring and late fall camping. But early spring camping didnt happen this year due to CVD-19.
For my portable BBQ I just set it up to use the propane port on my camper and a hose.
I am looking foreword To not having to buy the disposables anymore. If not purchased on sale it comes out to roughly 9$ a gallon

I have been using the flameking  refillables for some time, at home (propane torch) and on the road. I used to refill  the greenies, but noticed a few got an hourglass figure. You don't need the stand. I just set the big tank on the edge of a picnic table with the lil guy hanging over the edge. They're less of a pita and more piece of mind with the flameking  system. It's illegal to transport a disposable cylinder. I guess I'm a little more carefull after surviving my stupid shit days.

It's illegal to transport a disposable cylinder?  I'm confused.
