I recently got a Midland Weather Alert Radio with Alarm Clock (code on the box lid is WR-120EZ).  The idea is to take the guesswork out of inclement weather forecasts when we're out with the TT.  So, I'm going to start playing with it tonight to set it up.  We want to try it at home for a few weeks before we take it on our next road trip - up to Custer State Park, South Dakota in May.  I'll come back later with my thoughts on it.

We had 2 Midland radios but got rid of them.  The weather-alert alarm was so loud and scary sounding, we couldn't take the shock of hearing it go off.

It was a high-low-high-low screech that sounded like a nuclear attack was imminent.   And, we couldn't adjust the sound down to a lower volume so I just gave up on them. Our other weather radios have a warning 'tone' to alert you.

We were able to select a single or few counties nearby to alarm when there was an alert.  It reduced the number of alerts since something 100 miles away wasn't of interest.

Let us know how it works out.  I hope you don't have that frightful alarm.

So...I finished programming the 120EZ.  I tuned it to El Paso County, Colorado, where we live.  I set it to give warnings for high winds, violent storms, tornadoes, flash floods,  fires, and wild fires since we get plenty of those.  I turned off the alerts for coastal storms, hurricanes, and coastal tide warnings since I haven't seen many of those in Colorado.  I opted for the three minute voice warning, which is preceded by 8 seconds of alert tone.  Doug is right, the alert tone is rather loud.  I have the option of turning off the alert tone and just receiving a text alert display.  For now, I'm opting to leave the alert tone on to see how it sounds when we get an actual warning.  My wife and I both have hearing losses so that may be of advantage to us.  I adjusted the voice warning volume to an acceptable level.  When we take the120EZ on the road with us I may also try the alarm clock it has built-in.

Now...we're just waiting to here it work.  Sometime after that, I'll come back with an update.
