Re: Torklift battery box initial review

Steam_Guy ·
I installed mine late last week after returning from an 850 mile excursion with my 1985. I agree with your review 100%, including the part that "I'm very happy with it". I like it because everything goes into the box and there is plenty of room, and it only needs one function to unlock it versus undoing the box straps. I purchased the box designed for two six volt batteries even though I'm running two group 24's. I also replaced the locks (plural because I also own the propane lock system,...

Wow, we are the little rally that could like the little train... I think I can, I think I can and now look where we are! Awesome! Is it time to start a conversation on a a schedule and suggestions on communal meals? There was a conversation on a breakfast but not sure what else has been discussed. if we have some suggestions, I will put together an itinerary to post in a common area. Friday afternoon/evening everyone will be arriving and setting up so an easy potluck of food and beverages...

i missed the online booking window...late as usual! i'll probably come up thursday and leave saturday. i'd hate to arrive friday on a holiday weekend and find all the good "first come, first serve" site taken. if there is a way i can hold sites for other "first come, first serve" campers, i'd be happy to do that. i have no problem paying in advance for anyone here. unfortunately, i require a complex diet due to kidney failure, so i'll be out for the group meals. i will however bring plenty...

Wow, all I can say is what a great group of people!! I had the pleasure of spending a night fireside at Pismo with this wonderful group and just got done telling Jack Cole (Lance President), how gracious and fun they were to hang with. I brought the all new 1052 with the ultraDECKplus bumper and think engunir might want to add this model to his Lance fleet! Next time I hope to bring my family and I look forward to seeing many of you at the Plant Tour Rally & BBQ in September! Koby &...

We just returned from a 2-night dry camping trip. Since it was only 2 nights I decided to go with our puny group 24 battery that came with the 1575 (we rarely use it and instead use a group 29 battery almost always). The group 24 (from our dealer) came with a crappy (group 24) battery box that is square. I wasn't sure if the battery lock would work with this box, but it did (a loose fit, but secure "enough") so I took a couple of pictures. You can also see that the 2 battery cables & the...

You know what... Even though we're a small and intimate group and I know everyones name, I feel a name tag is in order. It was suggested in another post for another rally that a name and also the LOA user name be included. I now believe Jumbo Jet is Jim. I'll have to confirm.

Serge - I just went out to the garage & checked. It is a group 27 "Attwood 'Power Guard' Battery Case". I have had 2 of them for at least 10 years so hopefully they are still in production.

It would be great if someone (you know who you are) would start to build a timeline for all the events and meals and stuff like that, both optional and 'you can't get out of it' kinda things. We ask, because at some time, we're going to have to semi-plan for meals not catered (such as private times and pot lucks) and time not being spent with the group. For example, we'd like to visit the 20 Mule Team Borax museum in Boron, 'cuz 1) it's interesting, and 2) Simon works with a fella who spent...

Re: Princess Craft Truck Camper Rally, April 6-9, 2017

Doug, aka Atchafalaya Man ·
The PC rally is open to anyone who is interested, regardless of ownership or type of RV or membership in any group. Some don't even have a camper. The Princess Craft owners just love TCs and thus the TC oriented rally. Last year, we ended up with about a dozen LOA members there. It is a party with lots of other brand and size campers there. One of the events is 'open house' afternoon where owners allow groups to view their mods and camper layouts. It's almost worth going just for that,...

Thanks Bruce. You (once again) steered me in the right direction. 130 AH AND it fits in a group 27 battery box (which fits in/on the stock battery tray) - enough said!

Yep. Only adds ~15# to the tongue, but substantially more Ah over a stock group 27, and rated to 600 charge/discharge cycles at 50% DoD to boot. As a single 12v battery solution, they're hard to beat.

And for me it's an even smaller weight addition - only 4.8 lbs. heavier than my Interstate group 29 (101 AH) and only 20.6 lbs. heavier than my Interstate group 24 (81 AH). *Group 29 for dry camping. Group 24 for hook-up camping such as rally's/rallies. Trojan really packs in those AH!

Good timing that this thread popped up today. Regardless of the last time that we camped I have always (16+ years) charged my trailer batteries every 3 months. Today being the closest Sat. to 9/30 it was charge day. I have this battery as well as an older/wimpier group 29 Interstate & an even wimpier group 24 Interstate. A good choice! Is the 66-70 lb weight ever an issue being too much for one person to handle alone? The SCS225 battery is more of a marine battery, meaning it is designed to deliver high amps. Do you know how your 30xhs bulk, float, and equalize voltages compare to what your converter/charger puts out, or your solar charger if you have one?

Red, I am in the process of buying the same battery and a battery box. According to specs, t he atwood box you use is about 1/10 of an inch shorter in length than this battery, so I was going to buy a larger box, that has a bit too much extra room, and I am concerned it might not fit in the 1575 mounting area due to more width (I dont have my trailer yet so cant measure it). Is it a very tight fit lengthwise, perhaps a concern, or perhaps limiting tthe necessary ventilation?

You'll be happy with the Attwood (not to be confused with Atwood who makes our stoves, etc...) group 27 box as well. It holds group 27, 29, & 30 batteries as well as goes perfectly with the B&D lock.

Hi Laura, Sorry I missed this. Been busy with fires in our area. Evacuated with the trailer one night - dry camped in my sister-in-law's driveway & the battery was still at 96% in the morning with a lot of furnace & water pump use. Been on high alert ever since ready to roll. Driving back home brought the battery back to 100% & it is now plugged in to the house remaining fully charged. Just taking a rare rest this week and got on LOA. This will be short, but ask away for expanded...

Go to this website that has a map of the other camps in the area. While its not with the group its not that far to drive over and spend the days and evenings. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare...d=80835&actid=29 This is a list of the other nearby camps which are on the map. Sinkhole - Rim - Spillway - Mogollon - Crook In addition there are many areas where you can camp in a "Dispersed" area for free. Contact me if you want or need more information.
