On our recent 7 day trip we decided to use our front cargo carrier with storage box.  Since the weather was going to be hot I had some concerns about engine and transmission temps.  My truck doesn't have a trans temp gauge so I invested in a Edge Insight CS gauge system.  This product is plug and play simple.  It plugs into your vehicles OBD2 port and can monitor all kinds of different information provided by the vehicles computer.

For this trip I decided to use the supplied windshield mount but plan on investing in the optional dash mount for a more factory look.  I found the gauge information very useful and reassuring.  On our way home we we're traveling up the grade on I 40 from Needles Ca to Mountain Springs summit in 109 dg heat.  Cruise control set to 69 an air conditioning on.  Trans temp hovered at right about 192.

The gauge can be configured to your liking and can display between 8 to 2 readings at the same time.  I found that anything more than 4 made the numbers a little small....

Here is a link to a review on YouTube from Etrailer.com.  I tried to insert the video but it wouldn't play and said to watch on YouTube.....

So far so good with the DEF system. There has been lots of talk with systems errors i.e. poor DEF fluid, bad DEF injector, the list goes on. The other problem is, DEF has a shelf life of about a year and is prone to going bad with either shelf life or heat in excess of (I think) 100 degrees.

Another thing about the DEF systems, it creates lots of heat during regen, I seen temps in the 1100 degree range on my EGT 1. The system is also very restrictive, the exhaust is a 4 1/2 inch pipe but it also has a CAT plus the SRC plus the DPF. If you continue to shut off the vehicle during regen you might get (keep driving DPF not complete) I haven't seen this yet as my 2013 isn't a daily driver.

Another note, during regen diesel fluid is injected into the SRC to help burn of the soot hence the 1100 degree temps and poor milage at the time of regen.

Once my 2013 is out of warranty, all that stuff is going bye bye but not throwing it out in the trash because of the value of it.

Hi Gary.  The CS is not a programmer, monitor only.  The CTS is a little nicer I think and is touch screen.....

Amazon, $240, oops, just checked, now $230

That's right CS and CTS insight, both monitors only and one is touch screen.

Gary and anyone else who might be following.  The gauge pod/mount arrived today.  Color was a good match to my dash color.  Installation consists of metal tabs that adhere to the pod and Velcro tabs that hold it to the dash.  Installation for me was particularly easy.  On the metal tabs I stuck the Velcro that would stick to my dash cover and that was pretty much it.  I like the look much better than the supplied windshield mount......

The gauge(s) are actually much easier to read than they appear in the pics.  There was glare/camera flash and I didn't want to move the truck or wait for better lighting.....
