Re: Garmin nuvi 2797LMT

Bruce H. ·
Thanks, Mike, for the excellent review. I've been considering one of these but have been unable to get an answer to a question I have. Hopefully you can help me. When traveling in unfamiliar territory, I like to have the map showing. No destination is entered, just like to see where we are on the map as we move along. Additionally, the map must have a scale on the screen. Does the Nuvi 2797 provide this? Thanks, Bruce

Bruce, The map can be selected even when there is no destination entered. As for a scale not sure what you are looking for exactly, you may want to check the Garmin Forum at http://forums.gpsreview.net/ca...um-garmin-nuvi-forum Mike Originally Posted by Bruce H.: Thanks, Mike, for the excellent review. Thanks, Mike. Glad to hear that maps can be accessed without having to designate a destination. Now to find out if the maps show scale. Scale is essentially a ruler which shows distance on the map that correlates with distance on the ground. Thanks for the link. I will check it out. Bruce

Bruce, I don't believe it has a scale, at least I have not found it anywhere to be selected when viewing the map, with all the features this unit has it may be hiding somewhere and I have not found it. In map view, it's usually in the upper right or lower left. I don't have the same model Garmin as Mike, but I've had three Garmins in the last 10...

After three months with the Garmin 2797 I thought a posting of an updated review would be helpful. I did receive a replacement from Garmin back in December which has been functioning correctly with the correct time. We have been using it extensively for the last three months and am very satisfied with the choice of the 2797LMT. Some of the major features we like with this unit are: School zone notification Traffic reroute Smartphone link Active lane guidance Voice activation Map selection...

I just saw this. Was it ever posted in the discussion? Wish I could have made it but it's only a week apart from the annual SCIO. I've been trying for the past 3 years to have someone do a GTG who lives in CO. All I got was places to camp but no one wanted to set it up. Thank you Rob for doing this. My U.S. map looks like it's missing a tooth and it's CO. I'm planning on a trip there this year so I'll keep in touch, maybe we can hook up since you know the places....

Rob, What's the chance of posting a list of attendees and their site number? I'm attempting to keep track of the sites and MIGHT be able to post a map of the campground with the names of the attendees by their sites. Thanks!

Go to this website that has a map of the other camps in the area. While its not with the group its not that far to drive over and spend the days and evenings. https://www.fs.usda.gov/recare...d=80835&actid=29 This is a list of the other nearby camps which are on the map. Sinkhole - Rim - Spillway - Mogollon - Crook In addition there are many areas where you can camp in a "Dispersed" area for free. Contact me if you want or need more information.

Hey, y'all, I'd be glad to do a better drawing of all the campers and where they have their reservation, BUT I only have nine that have checked in. If you aren't listed on the map I posted, let me know where your campsite is and I'll get you drawn in! And, remember there are some "first come-first served" still available. Let me know if you're thinking about coming even if you don't have a reservation. That would count for ten more rigs!!!!! Thanks!!!

Woodglue turned me on to this device. https://www.amazon.com/Spot-Satellite-SPOT-Gen3-Messenger/dp/B00C8S8S4W/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 I bought one and paid for the annual monitoring ($150) and so far love it. I used it on my trip out to Chino Valley AZ and then to the mountains of Santa Fe. Both had no cell service. It basically receives AND transmits via satellite so you don't have to have cell reception to get rudimentary communications out. There are 5 buttons on the thing you...

We've used our Good Sam GPS (5" one) for almost a year now and it does a really nice job. I have a question someone here may have an answer for: The free maps forever thing is nice, even if it is only once a year. I recently hooked mine up to my computer through the "Dock" and it said a map update was available and I'd need a MicroSD card, 8 GB or better, to get it. So I bought the card ($12.95), stuck it in the side when the dock software told me to, it downloaded files totalling over 4 GB,...

Don, I get road construction updates pretty often but the map only once a year and this was my first. I was just surprised when the software said a map update was available and I'd need a chip, so I kind of expected - I don't know, more detailed graphics, additional detail, Keanu Reeves driving a bus, something. I might see a difference when we go out again next month, I just turned it on once here at home. Thanks for checking.

Update - I downloaded a huge map update about a week ago. The issue with speed limit accuracy seems to have been corrected. Rand Mcnally also made a number of other software upgrades. For instance, split screens at intersections, etc. Today, we were in Pueblo, CO, and decided to check out potential camp grounds in the area. We used the GPS database to locate some, and had it take us to them for future reference. We're very pleased with the Good Sam GPS overall. Don

Smooth, fast, responsive, perfect screen size (5.5") with almost no wasted real estate around the screen, fits in a front pants pocket, double-tap with your finger to turn it on & off, ... If you have any questions feel free to ask. My first suggestion - take it slow. Here are some things I do with my phone - Calls, email, text, alarm clock,...

NEW INFORMATION: The 1st Annual Great Plains Gathering will meet in the Oak Bluff Campground at Ponca State Park in northeast Nebraska. This is a beautiful area of rolling hills, forest, and cropland along the Missouri River. The Oak Bluff Campground is well shaded and protected from wind. The sites are relatively close together, so we will be able to go between them easily. I will try to figure out how to insert a link to Reserve America to make it easy to reserve a site, but in the mean...

You're gonna have a ball... During the 2016 gathering, Marcia, @acmaintainer and I were in group camping. And, except for personal generators, Group camping is boondocking. Some others had regular sites with power, water and maybe sewer. For us though, it is about a 2200 mile trip, one way. But, the rally was not all we did. We went further into CA because the friend we had in tow , @setters wanted to put another state on his map.
