This is the Official Announcement for the Desert Southwest Gathering at the Copper Mountain RV Park in Tacna, AZ on March 19, 2020 to
March 23, 2020.
The Copper Mountain RV Resort is an RV park in the middle of the desert about 35 miles east of Yuma, AZ. It is a Passport America park that
allows the PA discount for up to four nights. The park has full hookups, free wifi, and cable TV. The spaces are roomy and allow plenty of room
between sites. I will attempt to get a site adjacent to me that will not be assigned and can be used as our central meeting place for EZ Ups,
campfires, etc. (Wood fires are not allowed, but propane fire pits are acceptable). We will all be located near each other and will have a
central site for activities, potlucks, campfires, and socializing. You can begin phoning the campground to make and lock in your reservation.
You will be given a site number, BUT you may not be in that site! Check the web page for Copper Mountain at coppermountainrvpark.com to
check out the campground and see a map of the park under the "site map". We will have available sites 26 through 34, 42 through 48 (except
for 45 & 46), 50 through 56, and 70, 72, and 73. Sites 45 & 46 will be used for socializing, potlucks, etc. We may have the Rec Hall available
in the event of adverse weather..
There will be a limit of 25 units for this first attempt at a Desert Southwest Gathering. We will have potlucks, plenty of eats, and possibly some
unique entertainment (No, Randy will NOT be doing his famous primal Maori dance around the fire wearing his grass hula skirt!)
You can phone Copper Mountain RV Resort to make your reservation at 928-750-6652. The park will need your payment to hold your
reservation, so phone as soon as possible.
I am hoping for a Thursday evening finger food potluck and social gathering around the propane camp fires. Friday night potluck supper is also
in the works. I am working on a Saturday evening function to include a burger/brats supper accompanied by potluck-style side dishes with the
meat to be supplied. I am also in the process of planning another bag omelette breakfast for Sunday morning with fruit, juices, coffee
cake/cinnamon rolls, etc. supplied by offerings from the attendees.
As of today I have received several confirmations for attendance. Once you have your reservation, PLEASE PM me here (or
lewander3308@gmail.com) and let me know which site you have reserved. My plan is to be parked in site 45 with site 46 reserved for our
Gathering location.
Linda, the Manager, has been wonderful working with me and doing all she can to make this a success. You can stay for four nights with
Passport America - $81.12. If you want to stay longer, the weekly rate is $149.34 (or $134.45 with a Veteran's discount). Get your reservation
locked in soon.
I am going to beg for a $10 donation from each unit to help defray the cost of the extra site and the additional expenses of the weekend.
