Victoria got me an iBALL Wireless Trailer Hitch Camera for Father's Day.  Initial test looks good.  Haven't used it yet to hitch the TT and TV.  However, tested it this morning on the TV.  Very easy to use.  Simply put the 9V battery in the camera, and use the magnet base to attach it to the tailgate of the TV.  Plug the receiver into the cigarette lighter of the TV, and turn it on.  The result is a wide-angle color picture of whatever is behind the TV.  The camera can be angled so it points directly at the hitch, or straight out for a wider view.  So far, I like it!  It seems about as dummy proof as it can be - which helps me a lot.

Sound very good. What they can do now days with electronics is just amazing!

If you have chance, take some pictures and post them on the Forum. I'm sure there are others that will find your findings very interesting. Also, you may want to try it on the back of your trailer. You never know, maybe real useful there too!

Happy Camping

Bob,

I certainly will post some pictures as soon as I get a chance to use it with both the TV and TT.  This morning, we walked the camera at least 25 feet away from the rear of the TV, with another vehicle in between, and the picture was still transmitting with no problem.  I'm not sure how the big box shape of the TT will affect it, but one of my ideas is to test it on the back of the TT, while backing it up to see if it will still work.

Also, the troubleshooting instructions say the blue tooth technology of the camera may interfere with other blue tooth devices.  When we test it with both the TT and TV, I'll see if it interferes with the blue tooth technology that syncs my cell phone with my TV.

Used the iBALL for the first time today.  Used it first to hitch the TV and TT.  I found it to be very easy once I got the hang of looking at the screen while backing the TV into place.  Then, I put the camera on the back bumper of the TT when I was backing it into our storage space.  That worked out very well also.  Below is a picture of the screen shot I took with my cell phone of the view I had as I was backing into our space.  The picture is fuzzy because it's a picture of a picture, and I didn't take the best shot with my camera.  The view on the iBALL screen is pretty clear actually.

I think this gadget is going to work out well for us.

Dave,

Here are a couple of better pictures of the iBALL that I was able to take this morning.  I like the device because it's portable, and I can put it wherever I want.  I'm not sure I would use it on the highway, however.  The magnet in the camera base is strong, but I'm not sure it would hold up to road jarring.  And the 9V battery is only good for 2-3 hours.  Another thing I like is it didn't seem to interfere with the blue tooth technology that syncs my cell phone with my truck.  For me, it works for now.

Here's a link to the I-Ball site;

I ordered one last week (they had a $10 off special) and received it but have not used it yet (we were away camping/fly fishing when it was delivered).

As Don say,s it appears to work really well for its intended use and I look forward to using it on our next trip.

It can also be aptly referred to as a "marriage counselor in a box"!

I'm sure some of you can relate to that...

After using the IBall to hitch up these past few weeks, I can now say that I would highly recommend it.

Lining up the ball and hitch, as well as gauging correct distance to back up is now a piece of cake - it works every time w/o having to get in and out of the truck all the time to see where I'm at.

I absolutely love my iball.  I've had a few trailer hook-up aids, but this is by far the best.  I have been using it for about 1-1/2 years and trailer hookup, for me, is a lot easier than getting directions from a partner, as everyone thinks left and right differently, especially with hand signals.  When the 9 volt battery starts getting a little low, there tends to be a bit of static, but a quick battery change remedies the static condition.  If anyone at the Lone Pine Rally wants to try it, stop by my campsite (#23) and give it a shot.

Grumpa,

I really like my iBALL.  The camera is magnetic.  When hitching, I put it on the tailgate of the truck, and it makes backing up for hitching a snap.  When backing the TT, I move the camera to the rear bumper of the TT, and it gives me a full view of everything behind the TT.  Using the camera, I often get the TT out of storage, and return it to storage by myself - which makes Victoria more than happy. Happy wife = happy life, and I get to keep my TT.

Just ordered our own.  We have canopies on our truck here in AK as well as the one in the Lower 48.  Hitching is always troublesome.  I had planned to wait till we reunited with our trailer to buy, but then I went out into the driveway here in AK to hitch up the boat....

Dawning of the light!  Buy it here, use it for the boat, then pack it for the trip south and use for the trailer.  Why own two units when this one is so mobile?

We (especially my wife) really like this little gadget.

From my unbiased observations, I agree.  Maybe it's a Mars vs. Venus thing.

And if you are unsure which planet you are from, there is a button on the display that reverses the view, like looking in a mirror (or not).  See which view you are most comfy with.

Speaking from my own experience, you're giving him a gadget that is very, very useful to have.
