I have many DVD's and TV Shows ripped to digital video in .mp4or .mkv formats. I have a 2014 Lance 1191 with the Jensen entertainment system. Both the TV and the Stereo have USB connections, but alas, they don't play video, just some audio formats.
The Stereo comes with an IPOD connection so I moved some videos onto the IPOD via Itunes and it works! By it works, the TV shows a folder, and I use the TV remote to drill down into sub-folders and could play the movies.
Downsides. It doesn't support AVI, or MKV formats, just AVI/MP4. The preferred format for now is .MP4/h.264 anyway, so that's not a big deal.
After verifying that it works, I played with video sizes / resolution to find what was acceptable. In the end, a TV show without commercials (40 minutes play time) ends up being about 150K in size!!!!
Why would I want to do this? An Ipod Touch goes up to 64GB in size. That means that I can fit about 426 shows on a small device. A used 64GB Ipod Touch 4th Gen goes for about $100-$150 on Craigslist, 5th Gen $150-$200. Both will work. Mine is a Gen 4. Ipad will work too.
Note to those who buy new LCD TV for their campers, get one that support h.264/mp4 video on the USB port. Much easier and USB sticks are cheaper. I believe Naxa 12v TV's do, and the reviews say they are really efficient on power. One review says "Only 1.8A from 12v!!!". Not bad for a 1080P TV!
