My experience:

I have had this lantern for about four years and it has been a fantastic lantern.  I don’t think I have ever changed the batteries thanks to the LED lights low energy burn.  My kids love being able to use a quad light while I can keep the base nearby still providing light.  It is very convenient and provides the perfect amount of light.  I’ve seen these as low as $40 and if you can find one - BUY IT! You will not be disappointed.

I bought an inexpensive lantern at Dick's a couple years ago, it work ok but the clips that hold the battery pack in the bottom don't work very well so the batteries fall out.  I guess some duct tape would fix that but a new quad light might have to go in the amazon list.
