Got my own Honda EU2000i generator today and my No Spill gas can and all the misc doodads,, It took abut 10 pulls on the first times to start the thing, but as of far, it's a great, super quiet genny, I put a magnetic dipstick in there to catch shavings, which are going to happen. I also installed a Hardline Tach/Hour meter, which was a lot easier on the Honda than the Smarter Tools Genny I had. Gassed up a with a little Sta-bil gas protectant, also put in 10/w 30 synthetic oil and will...

I recently sold another type of small motor Honda that has been beat on, neglected, and abused in harsh environments for over 30 years! (Only about 10 years by me) I think I changed the oil 3 or 4 times in that 10 years. Bike didn't cost me much, and I just wanted to ride. Found out when I was selling it that I had cracked the frame (1985 Suspension technology ain't what it is today) but that motor simply will... not... die. Yeah, I think you'll get your money's worth out of your Honda.

Recently purchased a Hutch Mountain propane conversion kit for one of our two Honda gens. Anxious to install and gauge performance. Used one of two gens during a trip to Grand Canyon this past summer. Camping at higher elevations we found we did not need the 2nd gen since no A/C was necessary. We also use our gens as backup power for our home. We can run critical home circuits on one gen. Being able to tap into our 400 gallon propane heating supply makes this very handy for extended power...

Similar for me so far. I have the 2020 1995 with the Coleman Mach AC and the Honda EU2200i feeding us during a Walmart overnight. All the pre-season, pre-purchase research I did convinced me that I would be installing a soft start on the AC to temper the load but much to our pleasant surprise, (so far anyway) we’re running low speed AC and enjoying a bit of cool. The generator is working hard when the compressor kicks on but overall we’re getting the results we need. Glad to hear of others’ ...

I recently rented one from Home Depot despite the negative attitude of the rental guy (that it wouldn't run my 2014 9k A/C) HA! I did my research and guess what, it worked beautifully! Easy to start (one tug) and worked almost silently. The thing is you don't start it in ECO MODE, full on power is what you need. Now the newer 9k units might be a little more touchy as Coleman-Mach has made changes to the 9k, so that's iffy. If you have a newer model 9k, I'd rent one and see how it runs. For...

What is any advice on a Soft Starter for a generator? Would like to boondock and relieve strain on this pricey component. Pros and cons appreciated. Thanks!

My Harbor Freight 2000w Predator will run my A/C at 6,800' since I added the MicroAir Easy Start. It's been 3 years. No problems yet. 300+ hours on the generator. So any 2000w+ should be satisfactory. I made a cable from the twist 30a connector to a standard 115/15a plug using a 10ga extension cord. Much easier to handle vs the heavy 30a power cable with the RV plug. I can also run lights and the TV with my Dish Tailgater using a small inverter. Hope this helps.

Yes, that HF 3500 watt Predator gen just works. Yeah, it works great until asked to perform in hot environs. I've personally witnessed two that overheated and couldn't handle a 13.5k A/C unit and that was all that was asked of it. The internet also finds many complaints in this regard. It's unfortunate...such hope and promise. Bottom line is again..."ya get what you pay for".

I have several friends who tried them. They worked fine until put to real use. They consider them throw away 100 hour generators. In my mind they are pure junk with no parts or service support. But then I think that of everything HF sells. Honda is the way to go. If I didn't want to go Honda I'd go Yamaha and then Champion.

If one wants want a generator to run an air conditioner (or a microwave oven), they'll learn that air conditioners and microwaves widely vary as to their power requirements, even within varying AC / MW models of the same brand. It would be disappointing to choose a slightly-incapable-generator to power a slightly-too-large appliance. Historically, Honda started the 2000 watt generator craze with a 98 cc engine model (now updated to 121 ccs). Yamaha soon competed with their 79 cc model.

I decided to splurge and purchase the Honda EU3200i generator. Couldn’t be more pleased, and the power it has is amazing. Was able to start the AC unit, followed by a convection oven. The Honda App was also a nice feature, and was able to monitor power output.

My Harbor Freight 2000w Predator has worked flawlessly for 4+ years. Power outages of 10 days this past winter and 13 days in January 2022 put 350+ hours (I added one of those $10 hour meters from Amazon). It ran more items than the iPower 2000w inverter generator. Highly recommend. Just too bad the price has gone up over $150. I paid $429 back in the day. Hope this helps.

I think I have the same unit. It is very heavy. It has a large transformer that provides nice clean sine wave power. The one thing I don't like about it is you have to turn it on to get shore power. I would prefer that was automatic. It will run the air conditioner, but not long unless you have a huge battery bank.

@Les1 as you know there is no room under step. I was able to get my 300a fuse and battery monitor shunt down there. I placed 2 runners front to back to get inverter above hoses and created a chase for ac and dc wiring. I ran runners side to side to mount inverter to over the trough.I removed sink drains so they could be rerouted later. I installed a 30a breaker in a custom made electrical box and fed shore power to it then to inverter. From inverter to transfer switch. The dc I ran from the...

Gerald, Your LOA name suggests you have a 855s truck camper, like mine, so I’m familiar with the space under the sink. I recently ordered an inverter, and trying to decide where to place it. Under the sink, or under the step up, are two likely spots close to tne batteries. Could you provide more information regarding your install and wiring? Pictures would also be appreciated. Thanks Les

@Les1 I added a small 12v fan and a thermostat to vent the space. The space under stove is open to the vent below the drawers. When the camper is not in use I just leave the door cracked. I'm plugged in all the time so inverter kicks on and off when topping of batteries. I found a matching supply grill and cut it into side of cabinet for fan intake. There is a small void between the outside of cabinet that needed to be sealed to keep from recirculating air from the compartment.

I can't answer for anyone else, but I put 3000w in mine because it CAN run the AC, and has a bit of headroom leftover for a knicknack or two (like a desk fan, which does a good job circulating that cool air). Not for long (I "only" have 400ah of battery), but there have been times it's paid off. If I pull into a rest stop for a break and the trailer is sweltering, I can kick on the AC for some relief while I rest and get a snack. Or at a Harvest Host and I just want to run it for a bit...

@J Greg the honest answer for the 3k watt inverter was the 2k and 3k were physically the same size. We never intended to run a/c off of inverter so that was not a consideration. With the current battery bank 2 group 27 lead acid I would probably get an hour of run time but I have that option. When existing batteries go belly up I will go to lithium and have more available power. The 3k also will do 80amp bulk charging vs 60amp on 2k. My existing converter dosen't have the option to charge...

Guys the unit just dose an absolutely dynamite job charging the batteries. It bulk charges quickly then slows down to eventually trickle charging the batteries. Honestly t think that's where alot of the weight of the unit comes from. Unit is 22 x 10 x 8 I believe @ 60 lbs.

I've been there and done that! When I set up the BMS programmed an alarm to sound at 10% SOC in of the 702 BMS. With my battery bank that would leave me with about half of the energy in my former 2x group 27 FLA bank (37A). Enough power for me to react and fix a problem. It worked when I forgot and left the fridge on auto. It took a minute for us to figure out what the beeping was and find it was coming from the 702 as it was a new sound to both of us. @gerald855s - Thanks for posting this...

I always try to size for what if. Recently had an issue with my on board generator and considered removing generator and replacing with new Cummins Onan inverter generator or just using the space for adding like 6 more lithium batteries to the rig saving a ton of weight. So I've had this unit installed a while. What I like. Being able to to run all of my 115v accessories in the early morning without having to start generator. We use the 115v microwave and coffee pot usually before 10 am. Most campgrounds prohibit running of generator before 10 am so having the inverter comes in handy. If we do ever run the generator the charger portion of unit has an 80 amp bulk charging function that rapidly recharges batteries way faster than factory inverter. Cons. Size...

Sequoia 464 the price has dropped significantly since I purchased mine. The 2000w inverter charger is the same physical size as the 3000w so mainly the weight and output are different. The 80 amp bulk charge especially for lithium batteries is massive. I have my built in converter turnd off it dosen't do lithium batteries anyway. Mine is in a small area under the sink but noise is not an issue. Runs micro and Keurig in the morning flawlessly without having to run generator then solar refills...
