Re: Clam Six Pack 1660 Mag Screen Tent (or the Worlds easiest/fastest screen room)

kallish ·
We have one (and love it) and my brother-in-law who has a truck camper has one. He puts his in a case (might be meant for skis) and straps it to his ladder for transport. Fortunately we can throw ours in the back of the truck. For anybody with doubts, We highly recommend the Clam!

I am 5'1" and can put it up by myself. To make it easier I use a small stool to reach and pop the top, but by that time the rest is stable. It is a little long, I think to put it in the back seat would have to be on an angle. My brother-in-law straps his to the ladder.

Looks like a great solution! Does anyone know if using a ladder rack would void any Lance warranties? H

Been using this same rack for 3 years on our 2285. No issues. Do add a strap around the bikes and the upper ladder rung for extra support. Also did do two mods to make it more secure. One, a plywood face plate that slides onto the step behind the rack and provides a large contact area for the two foam bumpers instead of the bumpers sitting on the knife edge of the step. Two, straps that hold the rack tight to the ladder. Nylon webbings and two buckles from Home Depot.

Keep a close eye on your ladder mounting brackets, bottom and rooftop. If you fly your flag in high winds it puts stress on these points.

Swagman RV Ladder Bike Rack

HavaBrew22 ·
I purchased the Swagman RV Ladder Bike Rack on Amazon for about $60. Not having the option of mounting a bumper bike rack and not wanting to add to the tounge wieght with a front end mount, I figured this was the best option for me and my 2017 Lance 2185. It holds two bikes up to 35 lbs each. I have used on about 6 trips now with no issues even with our heavy beach cruisers. I did add some padded tape to prevent the metal support arm from scratching my Ladder. If your in the market for a...

BAL X-Chocks

HavaBrew22 ·
From the manufacturer: The X-Chock Provides added stabilization and prevents tire shifts by applying opposing force to tandem tire applications. As opposed to other chocks, the X-Chock works with the tires’ natural movement instead of against them. Fits even the tightest of applications retracting down to 1 3/8” and extends to 10”. Rust inhibitive coating. Plated ratchet wrench with comfort bumper included. Lightweight, easy to store. Lockable for added security with optional 28015 Pad Lock.

I assume you can’t walk on your roof? I saw a cool video where a guy, while using a step ladder, places his rolled up cover on the top front. By pulling a wound up rope, he unrolls the cover front to back. Then pulls the sides down. It worked really well for him. For my TCer, I tie a rope around the back of my cover with it folded about 3’ wide. I get on the roof front & pull the cover up, then simply pull it to the back; then drop the sides down

I looked at them but decided that they didn't help storage space any better than a regular bike. I would still need to carry them outside although we might be able to open the back door all the way when hanging them on the ladder rack. Maybe if we ever get a larger TT instead of the TC.
