Re: Big E's List Of Recommended Camping Stuff

Jan & Joel_T ·
My cholesterol was 250+ for years. Had fried everything and lottsa marbled steaks and bacon. Then had an unscheduled triple bypass early 2014....I was outnumbered so my wife and the docs changed my diet big time and its been at 114ish since then until last month came back at 145...no clue why. Kent, or anybody, did you notice any difference (sore muscle kinda stuff) quitting the cholesterol meds? I'd like to get them off my recommended camping stuff list

I'm still on them currently. Combined diet and meds keep me down pretty low currently. Doc didn't want to count on me alone to control it. I accepted that for now. Hmmm...We seem to be way off topic.

Yep, let me help with that........like most folks, my cholesterol was over 200 so my doc prescribed the usual statin cure. Took my first pill at bedtime and awoke the next morning covered head to toe in hives..........a SERIOUS allergic reaction. Back to the drawing board the doc then started me on a Niacin regimen and augmented that with a script for Fenofibrate 145 mg, one a day. Since then my numbers have fallen below 100 and my good cholesterol has risen above 70. I eat lots of carbs and...

Re: STRONGBACK Guru Folding Camp Chair with Lumbar Support

Looks really nice and comfy. Unfortunately, I would be afraid that I would lose such a relatively expensive chair. The only personal items I leave outside all the time while camping are my el cheapo Wal-Mart folding chairs and the $5 folding plastic table (also from Wal-Mart). If the outside furniture develops feet, it is not as painful. I wonder that, if I put my email address on the chair that it might be less attractive because my back ain't so happy with what I have. Lucy likes her...

Re: WeBoost (Wilson Electronics) Drive 4GM Cell Signal Booster

Doug, aka Atchafalaya Man ·
I have the old Speedboost by Wilson. For portability, we mounted it to a little plank and carry it and the magnetic antenna in a little leather bag. Sometimes when traveling we put the bag in the truck to make calls while driving. At night, we move it all to the camper. Once we checked into a State Park in Arkansas and were told there was no phone service because we were in a valley on the lake. We'd have to drive out of the park 1/4 mile to the top of a hill to use our phones. We moved the...

Yes, Erick. I made from galvanized tin, a ground plane plate. It holds the magnetic antenna. It is about 14 inches in diameter and flat like a pizza pan. It just sets whereever I want the antenna for the moment. I have two ways of moving it about on the roof. I open the escape hatch over the bed and set it somewhere I can reach, sometimes on the top of the air conditioner. WIth no luck there, I climbed the ladder and tried it in back of the camper. Almost always, the escape hatch trick works...

We have most of this stuff from previous camper. Don't forget, commercial TP is a no go, and TP should be purchased at RV centers, appropriate for RV toilets.

As much as I like the way mine feels when first sitting in it. It is definitely NOT a chair for folks with long legs. The lower cross bar presses on the Achilles tendon just above the heel on me making it a painful chair to recline in for periods longer than 5 minutes. Ours has been in the garage for years. Sadly not for me.

Camp Chef Everest 2X Stove.

Texmark ·
If any of you are searching for a new camp stove, I highly recommend this one! I’ve been searching for a new stove for awhile, and thought I was going to have to compromise and get one that had some design flaws. I was leaning toward the Camp Chef Everest, but it some some knocks on it, with the biggest being cheap/flimsy plastic latches. I knew I wanted one with 20,000 BTU burners and could handle large frying pans, and the Camp Chef and a Stansport model were the only ones I could find...

If my Camp Chef Summit bites the dust, I'll take a look at the Everest 2X. I love the 20,000 BTU burners on these Camp Chef stoves.

YETI Trailhead Collapsible Camp Chair

BrianJ ·
Generally I consider products from YETI to be considerably overpriced with questionable value added. However, I am weary from purchasing new camping chairs every other year that just don’t hold up to our use and abuse! I believe I have purchased my last camp chairs with the YETI Trailhead. Certainly don’t fold up as compact and it weighs in at just under 15 lbs but the comfort and build quality are amazing and for us merit the space and weight. The carrying case is equal of quality and I am...
