Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
On our last trip, RITV, we experienced problems with our black tank sensors. Last year we started using Unique treatment for the black tank. Due to the problems we recently experienced, we decided to try the Unique Tank Sensor cleaner. After filling the black tank to the top I used 1/2 bottle of the Unique Tank Sensor cleaner and let it sit for 7 days. After emptying the tank and giving it an additional rinse, I measured the amount of water installed in the tank. The sensor measured...

Good old borax and Dawn in a 1/3 tank of water on a travel day does it for us.

Thank you for your posts. We have used Happy Camper powder for several years but they are not currently shipping to California. I still have a good sized portion of jumbo sized tub left, but have been looking at alternatives for when we run out. Henry

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
We have been using the Unique brand of tank cleaning products for a year and they work great! The Unique tank treatment product is the best we have ever used. No tank “piles” and it truly breakers everything down so that it easily flushes out of the tank with no clogs. We are full timers in our 2375 and we have tried just about every quality product on the market and this is the best.

Not full timing but on the road about 9 months a year since 2014. I use to always use Pure Power Blue except when I couldn't find it, then it would be what ever RV tank cleaner I could find. Lately I've been trying the Happy Camper that a lot here uses. My results are as long as you properly flush your tanks it doesn't matter what you use.

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
I just visited the Unique website and they recommend using at least 20 oz of Dawn Ultra in the gray water tank to clean it. Their sensor cleaner product works great to dissolve organic waste in the black water tank, but grease and soap scum build-up are the main issues in the gray water tank. https://uniquecampingmarine.co...k-sensors-in-your-rv

How much of each do you use? I suspect the Dawn breaks up greasy stuff, and the Borax provides a good bit of grit for scraping bits. Sounds good but I'd like your recipe.

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
Yep, what @TSR Campers said. The borax acts as a water softener and releases disolved oxygen into the water aiding the non stinky biological activity digest stuff. The Dawn is a detergent that helps break up solids and emulsify oils/greases. Many other additives do the same at a higher price point while others surpress or stop biological activity but don't disolve solids or clean. TR Bolin did a great YouTube video on this method. He explains it accurately. https://youtu.be/wUWGlm2gQfE

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
Black water tank: Every second dump add a half cup of Borax dissolved in 4 pints (a kettle full) of hot water then add half cup of Dawn. Grey water tank: Every second dump add a half cup of Borax dissolved in 4 pints (a kettle full) of hot water then add half cup of Zep (Heavy duty Citrus degreaser & cleaner) Never had sensor problems. Someone said they use 2 big bottles of Coke and leave for a day then all sensors work ok again.

This product indicates that it is to be used as a sensor cleaner in the black water tank but can it also be used in the grey water tank to clean those sensors as well?

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
Last year I decided to do the Dawn and borax flush on the gray and black tanks. After about 100 miles of sloshing around in the tanks, I dumped them right after I got home and closed the knife valves. About a month later, we took the camper out for a week. When we got home, I was dumping the tanks and found that the knife valves on both tanks were stuck shut (the first time this has happened in 10 years). I was finally able to get them opened, dumped and flushed. I was able to get them lubed...

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
I did rinse the tanks a couple of times after I dumped the Dawn and borax solution. I did add water and Happy Camper before I stored it. The treatment seemed to remove the lubricity from the seals. Even after several dumps and flushes over the next couple of weeks, it was still difficult to get the valves open and closed. I have never had this problem before I did the treatment. I was going to replace both valves if the mod I made to the valves didn't work. Valve replacement would have been...

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
Why would you blame the borax/Dawn treatment? Did you do further rinces until the rinse water ran clear? You shouldn't store the trailer with empty tanks. Alway add a few gallons of water to prevent the knife gate seals from drying completely. Did you follow the full procedure? Sounds to me that the 1 treatment loosened stuff. Watch the video I linked above.

Re: Unique Tank Sensor Cleaner
Our black tank sensors work flawlessly...until the second poo drops in the toilet. The ONLY accurate gauge is shining a flashlight down the toilet. Tank sensor cleaners may work on sensors that have crud built up on them and that is especially true for the grey tank if greasy dishes are washed without wiping the gunk off first.

So hmmmmm I wonder if I could put this in my fresh tank to fix the sensor. It would surly cure us of scurvy brushing our teeth for the next ten years……nah Bob/Texas
