Spray on ceramic wax

Steve Forsberg ·
I've been using Meguiar's Flagship Marine Wax on my 2295. The results have been good but it does take awhile to complete the job. Have any of you used a spray on ceramic wax on your Lance? Do they work? Do they bond with the paint like they do on a car or truck? Do they harm the finish in any way? Any recommendations on brand? Any tips and/or tricks? All responses will be appreciated. Thank you all. -Steve Forsberg

Well I owe you one... I was prepping the camper for our trip tomorrow. Just a local trip to a state park camping with my wife's family. There will be an Airstream and an Oliver there so I had to have the Lance looking sharp. I decided this evening that I would clean the front of the camper... well... I used three different cleaners, polishes, and wax and each one seemed to get worse for blotches and swirls. I was getting extremely frustrated and remembered seeing this post so I went online...

I know this is dated, but wondering if a clay bar approach meets the need without going to the rubbing compound. I will add it to my list of things to ask Lance since they do not recommend compound.

I have used a product called Bow-to-Stern on my 2016 1685 from the beginning (it was mentioned in LOA discussions back when I was wondering what to use). It applies very easily, has protected the surfaces well from aging in the sun, and is designed for fiberglass boat protection which makes it well suited for the both the sides and front of the trailer since they are really plastic products. It produces a nice shine after about the third application, less so until then, but bugs and things...

Just finished mine. Sides and back look great. Front is splotchy. I used a single step product (Griots Three in One Wax). More work with spray wax did not help the splotchy. Splotchy typically indicates the surface wasn't clean enough, so going to redo with Griots Complete Compound then Poly Wax. I also keep a bottle of Speed Shine and Spray Wax for touch up while on the road. DW also uses these on the countertop, and occasionally on the shower.

Thanks for the response. I read in the Lance owners manual about not using a rubbing compound of any kind, but mine sure acts like it needs It. I possibly need a better cleaning solution, so I'll try that before adding a wax coat. Thanks

You don't want a super aggressive rubbing compound, but with dirt embedded, has to come off somehow to get a good finish. I would not use 3M Perfect It Heavy Cutting Compound, for example. But a mild cleaner should be ok. Griots has an entire range of products, from very mild to moderate. BTW, Griots has a 20% off sale through June 27th on all liquids, code EMGBFB

We have a friend that is a traveling detailer. I ask some of the same questions back a couple months. He indicated the best have to be used indoors, but there is a new one that he said will be able to install out doors in Sun lights. He's done a number of late model Lance travel trailers and the front skins are tought to keep a shine on. He would give a recommend product! A number of Youtuber RVers like 'ZEP' floor wax. Couple coats in a short amounts of times. <...

Thank you for the footwork. There are so many products out there it was a bit confusing. This seems like an appropriate product. I ordered on Amazon, this weekend's project.

I called Lance tech's about this waxing problem. They use McGuires Cleaner/Wax for fiberglass. Absolutely positively made all the difference! Completely shined up the front of our 2016 2295 looks like new.

I have found a product recommended elsewhere in the Forums does an excellent job and is very easy to apply - Bow-to-Stern or BTS. It is an easy spray-on product that you spread with a sponge and then wipe off easily. I have been using it now for 4 years on my 1685. The finish on my trailer has not deteriorated in the four years I have owned it and it cleans very easily -dirt and bugs don't stick tightly to the stuff. I have found the 32oz. size lasts a couple of years. I apply two maybe...

For anyone interested in a Ceramic application to your RV, here's a good video over view. < https://youtube.com/playlist?l...SKH_nrkwVd7l6CX9avLY > I knew it's an Airstream, but the technology is the same and maybe easier for a fiberglass sided RV. Enjoy Bob

If you want a high quality spray on Ceramic Wax (not the same as a ceramic coating), Griot's 3 in 1 Ceramic Spray On wax is: reasonably priced, very easy to apply, will not cause white residue on rubber, glass or flat paint surfaces and will last 6-9 months. I use it as a topper (applied over a coating of Griot's Poly wax / synthetic wax) on my vehicles, boat and Lance. Although I do not believe all of the hype of ceramics, the Griot's product is incredibly effective (protection, longevity...

Polish and wax products have a very mild abrasive. You should stay away from the compounds they require a lot of skill to use successfully. In most cases you will not that much of an abrasive product.

Hi Ed. This cleaner/polish worked great on mine utilizing an orbiter foam pad. Streaks and light oxidation eliminated!

Any information on what to use on the acrylic windows? I have a 2075 and would like to know what is the best cleaner and protector. Will the McGuires Cleaner/Wax work on the windows like on the fiberglass skin?

Hi, my Lance 2017 doesn’t have acrylic windows just glass. Contact the Meguair’s Co to see what they say. Good luck

No, the abrasives in a cleaner wax will probably result in a hazy window. You want to use a plastic polish on plastic; it has much finer abrasives. Something like this: https://www.griotsgarage.com/plastic-all-in-one/

I do not have my new Lance 2255 yet. But my last four trailers did very well with 303. Also use it on our canoe and kayak. Our current trailer we are trading in is a 2015 and still looks new with bright, uncracked sticker. Joe
