Re: Folding Bikes

BrownBear ·
We gave them a serious look and rode several belonging to friends, but decided they weren't for us. They're ideal for the contemplated uses on paved roads around the campgrounds. A big part of our biking is taking advantage of the many improved bike trails around the country, however. We found that even with gears, they are problematic off the pavement- even on improved gravel trails. The issue is the small wheels, which are severely affected by ruts, rocks and soft spots. We're not crazy,...

Bicycles are like canoes and kayaks. There are many makes and models with different price ranges and quality, serving different purposes. There is not a one size fits all. First decide on the type of riding you intend to do. We started with hybrid bicycles. Not especially great for road riding or mountain biking but they got us out and where we wanted to go...mainly short distances riding comfortably upright on both pavement and dirt and a workout on longer distances. And, the gearing was...

Re: Chemical Guys - TORQ Foam Cannon & Honeydew Snow Foam Wash

I use another Chemical Guys product to assist in drying. It's called Chemical Guys After Wash . "Chemical Guys After Wash is an advanced moisturizer that aids the drying process. The innovative drying aid repels water, adds lubrication, and creates a streak-free shine when drying any vehicle." This stuff is great. I spray it on an entire side and the water beads off. It also lubricates the outside of the trailer so that you will not scratch it when using towels to dry. I only use microfiber...

That's the main reason why I installed a MC 364 on our Coleman Mk15. I've successfully completed the five learning starts on house current via a 15 amp circuit and a 12/3 50' extension cord. Then it got cold again and I haven't yet tried the Honda EU2200i. I hope to have my hybrid inverter tied in and the solar panels expanded out to 650 watts from the current 370 watts. I fully expect it to work given @R&V Spiker 's and @Ty J 's experience with the Victron 30/3000/120 Multi I'm...

I have installed the MicroAire on my Coleman 15k. It would not start on the Honda 2000 without it. As to RobertMT's question I think the answer is yes. I think I've kind of looked at it from a whole system point of view as opposed to focusing on single components. If you decide where you want to end up and design a whole system that has adequate capacity you will likely be happy. If I made one mistake it was probably in the buying a TT with the Coleman 15k. But the local dealer had a trailer...

The price difference between 2k and 3k inverters, is quite a bit. The price difference between inverters and hybrid, is even more. I haven't had a converter, for last two years and don't foresee a reason to add one. I don't have MW nor do I intend to get one. I seldom use one at home, so see no need camping. I'm considering MS, instead of pure, since AC can run on both. Opinion is split, if mod will hurt AC or not. I currently run compressor freezer or small AC on small mod inverter and...

You just illustrated why I recommend a Hybrid or Power Assist Inverter/Charger. And you are lucky to have a 20 amp garage circuit; a lot are only 15 amps. I always use the example of visiting a friend and plugging into his garage circuit. I turn it down to cap the input at 14 amps and let the inverter and solar do the rest.

I guess we have different perspectives on cost. I was thinking in terms relative to the cost of the trailer and to the overall cost of the solar/lithium/inverter package. I just looked at AM Solar and a Magnum 3000 Hybrid was 2239 and a 2000 non Hybrid was 1735, for a 504 difference. I think that difference is larger than it should be as I only paid 1700 for my 3000 Hybrid; but the AM Solar example is likely the worst case. When I bought mine I would only have saved 300.00 going 2000 watt...

Re: Why you want the Honda EU2200i Companion

Chuck3006 ·
I have the same setup; a Honda 2200 and a 2000 in the serial number that will pair. For the first 30 minutes the 2000 is rated at 16.66 amps and the 2200 at 18.3 amps - for a total of 34.96 amps. For continuous running the 2000 is rated at 13.33 amps and the 2200 at 15.0 amps - for a total of 28.33. That is close enough for any uses I have had. Though I toy with the idea of getting another 2200 every once in a while and selling the 2000. Now I use the Honda's for uses other than powering the...

One important topic I haven't seen specifically mentioned ( other than the 30A adaptor ) in this informative thread is the gauge and length of the wire in the extension cord and the quality of the plugs. For the single 2k or 2.2k generator the shortest 12 AWG extension cord should be used. If one is running a longer 16 or 14 AWG cord than necessary there will be some loss of current on high demand periods. That loss generates heat and drops the voltage along the line and risks damage to the...

Re: Smokeless fire pits are cool!

Campersince1990 ·
Myself & several friends have been using Solostove Bonfires & Yukons for several years. We all quickly became fond of our clothing not smelling smoky the next morning. We started using pellets this summer, partly because we were getting a lot of wet campfire wood early on. We all agree pellets work very good, but not perfect. Cheap hardwood heating pellets ($6 / 40lb bag) seem to burn better with a little higher flame. The cooking pellets do give a nicer aroma, but cost about 4X the...

Thanks for those salient comments! Not worrying smoke into our RV is great! I have tried twigs etc. and found they just don't work as well as the pellets. I bought a 40 lb bag of pellets for $7, and that should last a long time in my tabletop firepit. If I had a large Solo or East Oak model, I would likely use chunks of firewood, since they can take larger wood. Our size works great to carry in the TC. Even though we get a 2' flame, we don't plan to cook anything with ours. However, it does...
