OK, then, I'll take you at your word that it is a question.

For the benefit of others, rather than you:

I've been using USB sh!t since forever. I'm a software engineer since around 1984. I've tried a bunch of different USB 'thumb' drives for this application, and none of them worked. I don't know why. I have an m-sata half terabyte SSD drive in a usb 3 enclosure which works just fine. Yeah, I know it won't do 'Trim', but that's fine, it's effectively read-only data. On the other hand, I tried a similar SanDisk 'thumb' drive to the one I'm advocating, and it didn't work.

My main point is that seriously large capacity 'thumb' drives are available for very little cost compared to only a few months ago. And they kind of change the game when it comes to enjoying stuff when on the move.

And only some of them seem to work OK. I pointed out one that worked for me.
