I (S) am not at all a fan of cloud based storage, especially, because a lot of the time we are not in places where cloud based storage is accessible. Big fan of store it locally, at least twice.
Technically, storing stuff on a thumb drive like this is a good first plan. It gives you options that are not obviously available on a Mac or a PC. But like DMC says, don't rely on it to be perfect. Store those unforgettable images somewhere else as well. Then you will be as cool as cool can be. For that second option, Google Drive, Apple iCloud, Dropbox, OneDrive or even a local Network Attached Storage solution will take care of it. It's not hard, but there's a lot of jargon associated with it.
