Reply to "Garmin 1095 RV GPS"

Thanks for posting this.   I did check on my 890 and it looks like Up Ahead is already turned off.

Garmin

My trouble with losing screen space is not blue tags, but is a side window that pops up on the righthand 1/3 of the screen about every 20-30 minutes that lists the distance to suggested places to stop.  I think the window is titled something like 'Need a Break?'.   I don't drive more than a couple hours without stopping so it's not like I really need a break.   l I like the idea of having the Up Ahead that is easy and quick to get to (rest areas and parking lots would be useful for me),  but I do  not want them showing up and taking map space unless I specifically request it at a time when I need it.   I am still searching for how to turn off the Need a Break stuff.

Yep the 3 choice default is turned off, if it’s on you get to pick three things that show up.  The Nat’l Park and Campground are additional “Up Ahead” items.

On the break item,  for your unit it’s likely  called “Break Planning” and you should be able to turn it off under the driver assistance settings.

From the 895/1095 manual:

Select Settings > Driver Assistance.

Driver Alerts: Enables an audible alert for each type of driver alert (Driver Awareness Features and Alerts,

Proximity Alerts: Alerts you when you approach speed cameras or red light cameras.
Route Preview: Shows a preview of the major roads in your route when you start navigation.

Break Planning: Reminds you to take a break and shows upcoming services after you drive for an extended time. You can enable or disable break reminders and upcoming service suggestions.

On my 770 they call it “Fatigue Warning”, I can turn it on or off, but even when it’s on the first time it pops up on a trip there’s a “stop asking” button.  I think once it pops on, it’s a 30 minute delay until it pops up again unless you route to a suggestion or stop and the unit turns off or hit the stop asking button.

If you want just want to quickly search for say a rest area you can add a shortcut on the “where to” screen.  I have a shortcut for “rest areas” and one for “Starbucks” There should be a “Add Shortcut” button on the screen that opens after you press “where to”  You might have to scroll down to see it.  The manual would be a lot better if it showed the screens too.

From the 89/1095 manual

Adding a Shortcut
You can add shortcuts to the Where To? menu. A shortcut can point to a location, a category, or a search tool.
The Where To? menu can contain up to 36 shortcut icons.
1 Select Where To? > Add Shortcut.
2 Select an item.
